About this spot
One of the nicest summer paddles in this area, approx 6.5 km one way paddle from Alta Lake to Green Lake in Whistler BC. Use the put in point at Lakeside Park (alt. Wayside Park) in Whistler to access Alta Lake. This is a busy lake, paddle straight north for 2km to find the entrance for the River of Golden Dreams which is a medium current winding stream that will carry you the remaining 4.5 km to Green Lake. You will need a second vehicle, or hire a pick up at Green Lake. There are also rental and tour operations who will organize your pick up.
Suitable for kayaks and canoes, not inflatables as there can be sharp sticks and beaver dams to cross. Not safe during winter or spring high water. Some paddling experience needed, Alta Lake can be very windy, and the ROGD has some quick turns and mildly technical sections, but also lots of opportunity to set the paddle down and float for a while. Bears are common, keep a respectful distance.
